ESL Specialist

Position

We are looking for a team player to join our Community Care team as an ESL Specialist, overseeing the Jubilee REACH ‘English as a Second Language’ program. This position is part-time, averaging 25 hours per week, possibly less in the summer months. Workdays are primarily Monday-Thursday, which schedule times varying based on program needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Programs and Students:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the ESL program, serving students with limited English proficiency

  • Oversee curriculum implementation and instructional practices

  • Facilitate communication: newsletter, email, text, meetings

  • Coordinate and conduct class placement testing for students

  • Build relationships with program students and monitor progress

  • Develop and implement short- and long-term plans for the efficient operation of the program

  • Stay up to date on ESL program trends, new ideas, methodologies, and training

Volunteers:

  • Recruit, interview, and train volunteer teachers and classroom assistants

  • Provide direction, consultation, and supervision to program volunteers

  • Provide ongoing volunteer development, training & workshops: teachers & assistant teachers

  • Observe teachers & assistant teachers in-classroom quarterly for evaluation & improvement

  • Monitor classroom settings to understand the needs of teachers and coordinators

  • Care for volunteers to ensure appreciation and a feeling of belonging

Administrative:

  • Manage the ESL department budget

  • Purchase needed supplies, textbooks, and materials for the ESL program

  • Maintain spreadsheets for applicants, current students and exited students

  • Coordinate translation of communication materials into other languages as needed

  • Maintain and revise forms as needed for the program

  • Attend staff meetings, as scheduled

Requirements:

  • Credentials for an ESL certification (TEFL, TESOL, ESL, etc.)

  • Strong understanding of ESL methodologies and teaching practices

  • Developed leadership and instructional coaching skills

  • Strong written and oral communications skills in English

  • Spanish language skills are strongly preferred

  • Computer literacy (Outlook, Excel, Word)

  • Ability to work independently and as a team

  • Complete a Federal and State Background Check

  • A willingness to practice honesty, forgiveness, and grace to those you work with and aim to serve

Salary Range: $25-$33 an hour
