Increase Diversity in STEM
As the occupation field of STEM only continues to grow, there is a significant problem also emerging - a huge imbalance in terms of gender, race, and socioeconomic status. Studies have found that these disadvantages found in our workforce today begin at a young age, even in elementary school.
Three girls from the greater Seattle area noticed this divide in their STEM clubs, CTE classes, and other science related activities. The answer to this was EduSTEM - a biweekly before school club for elementary school students of any gender, race, and socioeconomic status.
From making and launching rockets, to creating models of the polluted oceans, to pretending to be Mars rover drivers, every week EduSTEM aims to increase every child’s love for and interest in STEM through engaging activities.
