Students at Ardmore Elementary School are passionate about soccer. They play at every recess and absolutely dread the rainy days when the field must be “off limits.” Since the students love soccer, play daily and outside of school hours as well, the goal nets have become torn and tattered over time. Now there will be additional play and the need for improved goal nets is essential because Jubilee REACH is establishing a Soccer Club for all Ardmore students.
"Jubilee REACH not only helps us in the middle schools, but also in the elementary schools." – Odle student Yahir
One way Jubilee REACH is building community in and through schools is by improving the physical environment of the schools themselves. To improve equipment at Ardmore Elementary, Odle Middle School Site Coach, Giovanni Sanchez, and middle school student volunteers, Omar, Fernando, and Yahir rallied together to repair the soccer nets. Working after school, they acquired cable ties and joined them together to secure the nets around the posts, ensuring the soccer ball would not pass through the net. Without these repairs and improvements the students would have been without the durable soccer nets as necessary equipment for the new Soccer Club.
Our student volunteers demonstrated what Jubilee REACH is seeking to supply for all schools in the Bellevue School District. Their influential servant leadership is being recognized and appreciated by many school officials. They also fostered camaraderie as they served alongside one another. That is the Jubilee REACH way – through our Site Coaches, we understand the needs of each school and we empower volunteers to work together and contribute to their community giving back to meet needs.
"Other students can help the community by giving back to schools they formerly attended." - Odle student, Omar
"For elementary age children, seemingly ‘little things’ can mean a great deal. Repairing the soccer nets will be something the kids will notice right away and it will create excitement around structured play. We are so fortunate to have Jubilee REACH take an active interest in our school and immediately impact our social-emotional learning environments!” - Chas Miller, Ardmore Principal
"By volunteering, I felt good because I felt I gave back to our community." – Fernando
